I am afraid that 'SMDL' will cause confusion as it is already used for
Standard Music Description Language - an ISO standard (ISO/IEC DIS 10743).
So you would be wise to choose another acronym.

If it's any consolation, I created an (SGML) markup language called XML
over a year before the current XML name was chosen. I have renamed my
language (to TecML).
