My statement was very much qualified, hence your justifiable complaint about
my suggesting platform dependent solutions.

Agreed, I apologise for muddying the waters unnecessarily. Lets stick to
<!ENTITY euro "&#20ac;">
even if this hasn't yet been formally approved by the relevant ISO committee
as the
code point for the Euro (developers be warned)
