I agree with both of Matthew's points here:

1. You may well want to get something out with the functionality you are
currently considering;
2. This level of functionality is useless for repository vendors like
Texcel or POET, because we need to reconstruct the entire document. The
same is probably true of editor vendors.

I would be interested in knowing what kinds of applications you envision
for SAX. To me, it seems like it might be useful for applications that
extract data from XML files, e.g. for electronic commerce. What other kinds
of applications do you have in mind?
