Annelated pyridines as models for natural products
Initial aims were to prepare a range of simple analogues of the pyridoacridine marine alkaloids shown below
The synthetic strategy is be based on an intramolecular Diels - Alder reaction on the aza - butadiene with concomitant loss of dimethylamine to afford the desired adduct
R = H, Me, Ph, pyridyl, thiazoyl
X = N, O, S
Comparisons of the biological activity of these analogues with the natural products will be made
